Bengaluru: Three people have been arrested for allegedly slaughtering cows in an illegal slaughterhouse.
According to the police, the action was taken in response to a complaint filed by Nandini Matiyani, a volunteer with the Gau Gyan Foundation, an animal rights organisation.
The slaughterhouse owner, his worker, and an autorickshaw driver have been arrested under the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Ordinance-2020, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act-1960, the Food Safety and Standards Act, and the Karnataka Epidemic Diseases Act.
According to the sources, Matiyani stated in a video message that there were several illegal slaughterhouses which were operating in the City.
She claimed that she and police officers arrived at the scene at 6.30 am on Saturday October 16 and found four cows tied outside a house that had been saved from slaughter.
