Three out of ten soldiers who died in Siachen calamity were Kannadigas

Bengaluru: Reports have confirmed that three out of the ten soldiers who were buried in an avalanche on Siachen Glacier of Jammu and Kashmir’s Ladakh region hailed from Karnataka.

The deceased soldiers are identified as Subedar Nagesha TT, a resident of Tejur, Hassan, Lance Naik Hanumanthappa Koppad, resident of village Betadur, Dharwad district and Sepoy Mahesha PN, resident of village HD Kote, Mysuru.

It is learnt that Nagesh had been serving in the army since the past two decades. He was posted to the northern glacier of Leh segment recently. Nagesh is survived by a wife and two children.

Hanumanthappa Koppad was serving the army from the last 24 years. He is survived by a wife and an 18-month-old daughter.

Mahesh was a part of the Indian Army since 12 years. He was deployed to Siachen few months ago.

The other seven soldiers who are confirmed dead are: Havaldar Elum alai M, resident of village Dukkam Parai, Vellore district, Tamil Nadu; Lance Havildar S. Kumar, resident of village Kumanan Thozhu, Teni district, Tamil Nadu; Lance Naik Sudheesh B, resident of village Monroethuruth, Kollam district, Kerala; Sepoy Ganesan G, resident of village Chokkathevan Patti, Madurai district, Tamil Nadu; Sepoy Rama Moorthy N, resident of village Gudisa tana Palli, Krishna Giri district, Tamil Nadu; Sepoy Mustaq Ahmed S, resident of village Parnapalle, Kurnool district, Andhra Pradesh; and Sepoy Nursing Assistant Suryawanshi SV, resident of village Maskarwadi, Satara district, Maharashtra.
