Bengaluru: According to sources, the tiger census which includes a line transect and sign survey, will begin on January 15 throughout the State’s tiger reserves.
The exercise that has been delayed by three months will be finished by the end of February and submitted to the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) and the Wildlife Institute of India (WII).
On July 29, 2022, Tiger Day, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change plans to issue the all-India tiger assessment report.
The outcome of a crucial meeting on Covid restrictions between Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and the expert group on Tuesday January 4 will determine whether the census may be done in stages or at the earliest.
The census had been postponed owing to pandemic. When it was decided to begin, bugs in the M-Stripe app were found during testing. The NTCA has mandated that a single app be used across the country to upload information during the census.
