Bengaluru: Tipu Jayanti celebrations began across the state today, November 10, amidst tight police security. So far, no untoward incidents or outbreaks of violence have been reported from any part of the state.
The police have made elaborate arrangements across the state to ensure that the law and order situation is not disturbed. According to them, the situation is peaceful in all the districts including Kodagu, Mandya, Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Chikkamagaluru, where the pro-Hindu organisations have been opposing the celebrations. “In Kodagu, there is a bandh-like situation, but no violence. In the rest of the district, day to day life is normal. The situation is being monitored from Bengaluru in the presence of senior officers,” informed police sources.
“In Kodagu, if there is no violence, we can expect normal vehicular movement by noon,” said an officer.
“All the home-stays, tourist spots are wearing a deserted look, as the tourists left from the district on Friday evening, fearing violence and ban on liquor sale,” he added.
Meanwhile, in Bengaluru, the Tipu Jayanti celebrations will start at 11.30 AM at the Banquet Hall of the Vidhana Soudha. DCM Dr G Parameshwar will kick-off the celebrations.
