Bengaluru: Various pro-Hindu organisations have called for a Kodagu bandh on November 10, in protest against the celebrations of Tipu Jayanti.

The bandh organisers stated that the bandh is voluntary and have sought people’s support.

Speaking to the reporters, Tipu Jayanti Virdohi district committee president M B Abhimanyu Kumar informed that the bandh will be voluntary in nature. “We are appealing to the people of the district to extend support to the bandh,” he urged.

He stated that to mark the protest of the Kodavas against Tipu Jayanti, a number of events will be organised in all the villages and towns on November 10, including vehicle rallies.

Meanwhile, a preparatory meeting called by the district in-charge minister S R Mahesh in Madikeri on Wednesday to organise Tipu Jayanti witnessed chaos with the BJP members continuing their opposition.

BJP leaders led by MLA Appachchu Ranjan, MLC Subramani opposed the Tipu Jayanti celebrations, but S R Mahesh expressed his helpless in this regard.

Historians speak of Hyder Ali and his son Tipu Sultan’s ambition of bringing Coorg under their control, to get easy access to the Port City of Mangaluru and how in this bid, Tipu specifically butchers thousands of Kodavas through means of military power and treachery.
