Bengaluru: Nearly eight people were killed due to the heavy downpour witnessed in Bengaluru on Friday evening. While four people died as a result of a wall collapse another four, including a mother and daughter duo were reportedly washed away and are feared to be dead.
The rains that started around 6 pm led to flooding in several parts of the city causing traffic snarls. In some areas, residents vacated their houses and ran to upper floors to save themselves as rainwater started gushing in.
In Kempegowda Layout, Meenakshi (57) and her daughter Pushpa (22) were washed away in the stormwater drain when they came running out of their home when storm water gushed into their building. Similarly Vasudev, and another youth were washed away in the drain near Venkateshwara temple near Kurubarahalli Circle.
In Kurubarahalli 17th Main Road, a couple, Shankarappa (50) and Kamalamma (42)were killed on the spot after a compound wall collapsed on them while they were they were draining out the water that had logged in their compound.
Two others, Rudra and Mahendra too died on the spot when wall collapsed on them in Laggere.
The BBMP announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the kin of each of the deceased.
