Tumakuru: Despite my position and qualification, I am not allowed into the temple only because I belong to a Dalit community, said Former Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara here on Thursday April 14.

Speaking at Dr. B .R. Ambedkar and Babu Jagjivan Ram birth anniversary at his constituency, he said, “even though I have completed my PhD, and a former Deputy Chief Minister as well present MLA, I am not allowed inside the temples. The authorities say that I need to stand at the entrance while they bring the mangalaarati. They never allow me to enter the sanctum sanctorum.”

Parameshwara said, “Dalits are barred from drinking pond water. We hear and see such incidents even today. There’s a need to introspect and bring an awareness to change it,” he added.

This kind of discrimination is not seen anywhere in the world, and if any one questions, then the upper caste will retort saying that it is Indian culture, he remarked.
