Tumakuru: On Monday February 6, the Prime Minister would arrive at the inauguration of the HAL Helicopter Unit being built in Tumakuru.

The saffron brigade is determined to strengthen the BJP in Old Mysuru and is bringing Modi and starting the second phase of campaigning. On that day, Modi will inaugurate the newly constructed Helicopter Unit (HAL Helicopter Manufacturing Unit) near Bider Kawal near Nittooru in Gubbi Taluk. PM Modi laid the foundation stone for the Unit in the year 2016, and in December it is all set to manufacture LUHs and eventually the Russian Kamov-226 (Ka-226) helicopters.

As part of the phase-1 operations, the capacity to build 30 LUHs per year has been created and this can be upgraded to 60 choppers per annum. As far as the Ka – 226 goes, HAL is awaiting clearance from the MoD (Ministry of Defence). The land has been earmarked for this within the Tumakuru plant. The Ka – 226 will be produced in Tumakuru by a joint venture between HAL and Russian Helicopters. As per an inter-governmental agreement between New Delhi and Moscow, the deal is for 200 helicopters — 135 for the Indian Army and 65 for IAF — and will involve some transfer of technology too.
