Tumakuru: Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Y. S. Patil has warned of serious action against Government officials and employees who indulge in political activities.

Speaking at a meeting with the returning officers and assistant returning officers of all Assembly constituencies in the District in connection with the Assembly elections at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Keswan auditorium, he said that Government officials and employees should stay away from political activities. No party should be identified with candidates. If they fail to do so, strict action will be taken against them,” he said.

“In the wake of increasing the voter turnout, the authorities should make the voters aware about voting without fail. He made it clear that while creating awareness, it should be said to vote and not vote for specific candidates,” he said.

He said that suitable arrangements should be made for imparting election training to the officers and staff deployed for election duty in their respective Assembly constituencies across the District on April 11 and differently-abled and voters above 80 years of age should be updated daily in the ELECTONE software about the distribution of Form-12D. Out of the 7845 eligible voters in Kunigal Assembly constituency, 6794 voters have already been issued form-12D details in the ELECTONE software. In the remaining assembly constituencies also, form-12D should be distributed within the stipulated time and the work of updating the software should be completed at the earliest, he said.

Application forms 6, 7, 8 accepted including inclusion/deletion of names of eligible voters in the electoral roll, shifting, amendment etc. should be disposed of expeditiously without pending dues.

He directed that the applications received till April 11 should be disposed of without exceeding the period of seven days.

The fair is being held in several villages of the district and the head of the temple should be informed about the rules so that the model code of conduct is not violated while receiving a request from the temple to hold the fair.Authorities should not obstruct the offering of religious food in temples every day as the model code of conduct is in force. Candidates contesting elections are only allowed to go to the temple as a devotee. However, if the voters are given food, the candidate’s election expenses will be recorded, he said.
