Pavagada:  Telugu folk singer Gaddar, the 11th accused in the 2005 Naxal-police clashes where seven police personnel and a civilian died, appeared before the JMFC Court on Wednesday, November 6.

Although the singer was out on interim bail, the hearing was still pending in the court. He, therefore, had to submit his bail copy to the court and complete the remaining legal procedures.

It can be recalled that, in an anti-Naxal operation carried out by the police in Menasinahadya of the Koppa taluk in 2005, Naxal leader Saket Rajan was killed in an encounter. The Naxals, to avenge their leader, had then attacked the Venkatammanahalli Police Camp, killing seven police personnel and a civilian.

After the incident, Gaddar and Telugu poet Varavara Rao were listed as the 11th and 12th accused respectively. The former is now placed fourth on the list of accused, submitted by the police to the court.

Varavara Rao was produced before the court about two months back, along with a body warrant. Gaddar, however, presented himself before the court.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, November 5, Gaddar was subjected to an interrogation at the Superintendent of Police and DySP’s office.
