Two DK schools win Wipro’s sustainability award

Mangaluru: The Wipro Earthian 2020 Annual Award has been given to two schools in Dakshina Kannada (DK), one of which is a Kannada medium school. The Wipro Earthian Sustainability Development Project gives has given the award.

DK Kannada Zilla Panchayat Model School, Moodambailu, Bantwal Taluk, is one of the schools. The team members are Akash, Karthik, Pritham, Pranam, Adhitya, and Nitesh, and the project was trash management. The children were guided by Shruthi N. and Aravinda Kudla, the school’s headmaster. Three topics were given award; water management, waste management and biodiversity.

The school had given the title, ‘Namma kasa Namma hone, swachatege haku mane,’ for a waste management project. The students made doormats out of discarded saris, pen stands and flower pots out of used pens, eco-bricks out of plastic, and bio-enzyme preparation, among other things.

St. Joseph’s PU College Bajpe is the other school that has been shortlisted.  Alisha P. Rodrigues, Cleesha Pearl P., Gynnis Asuntha, Jenisha Lisa Pinto, and Princita Jeeval D’Souza were the team members. Rosina Florence D’Souza, a teacher, guided them.

The competition had received participation from over 60 schools in the Dakshina Kannada District. There were 20 winning entries from schools, 17 nominated entries from colleges, and eight winning entries from colleges in the 2020 competition.
