Bengaluru: Two engineering students were killed in an accident near New BEL Road in the wee hours on Wednesday.

The police have identified the victims as Gunavantha Sai and Vishnu Naidu, both 19-year-old second year students of MS Ramaiah Engineering College. The police said the two had borrowed a friend’s bike to go on a ride after attending a party in Yeshwantpur. The two were riding without helmets, police said.

Sai is a native of Kolar and was studying Industrial engineering while Naidu, a native of Nanjangud, was a student of architectural engineering, informed police sources.

Police said Sai was riding the bike and they were returning to their PG accommodation at around 12.45 am when the incident took place. As they reached New BEL Road, Sai lost control of the bike, went over a pavement and hit a tree. Due to the impact, both sustained severe head injuries. Police said passers-by shifted them to a nearby private hospital where they were declared brought dead.
