Bengaluru: Two Border Security Forces (BSF) soldiers from Karnataka laid down their life for the nation fighting the Naxals. Soldiers, Vijayananda Suresh Nayak (29) of Komarapanthavada of Karwara and Santosh Laxman Gurava (28) of Halaga village of Khanapur taluk in Belgaum, were killed in an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) blast triggered by the outlawed CPI (Maoist) at Chote Bethiya forested route in strife-torn Kanker district, about 200 km south of Raipur in Chhattisgarh on Monday, July 9.
Both Santosh Gurav and Nityanand Nayak were attached to the 121st battalion of BSF based at Bande of Kanker district.
Vijayananda Suresh Nayak was unmarried and leaves behind his father, mother, a brother and sister. He was trained at Impala of Manipur and served at West Bengal and Hyderabad. He was a member of the team looking for Naxals’ hideouts and attacking them in Chhattisgarh.
On Monday, after finishing the search operations in the area, around 200 soldiers were returning to the camp by motorbikes. Gurava and Nayak were seated on the same bike. Due to an IED blast on the way, both of them were killed on the spot, sources said.
Santhosh had joined the Army about 5 years ago. He leaves behind his wife, mother and 3 brothers.
According to the sources, the mortal remains will be brought to the state on Wednesday morning.
