Bengaluru: Unable to repay a loan taken for a surgery on his newborn, a man and his mother killed themselves at their residence at Nagarbhavi on Saturday night.
The police have identified the deceased as Padmavathi (48) and her son Yoganand (28), residents of 2nd Cross, Nagarbhavi. Yoganand, who owned a photo studio, had married Lakshmi, his relative about two years ago.
The police said, the couple’s 10-month-old son was suffering from a disease. Yoganand borrowed Rs 15 lakh from various sources for his son’s treatment. He incurred losses in his profession and closed the studio. He failed to repay the loans and landed in trouble. Yoganand was under pressure as his lenders started demanding repayment. He had also not paid the rent for the past 11 months.
It was said that Lakshmi had gone to her parents’ house at Yelahanka on Saturday. Yoganand and his mother locked the door from inside and hanged themselves from a ceiling fan. Lakshmi called Yoganand repeatedly on his mobile phone, but there was no response. She returned to her house in Nagarbhavi on Sunday and knocked on the door repeatedly. But there was no response. Lakshmi broke open the door with the help of a few neighbours and spotted the bodies hanging from the ceiling fan.
