Under pressure, state government withdraws police transfer orders

Bengaluru: Under pressure from the politicians, the state government has withdrawn its recent order directing the police department to transfer all the police who are working in the same place and posting since the last five years. This means that the police officers and other personnel will continue in their present posts for an indefinite period.

Last week, Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy issued an order directing the police department to shortlist the names of police personnel and officers who are working in the same place and posting since the last five years and transfer them with immediate effect. Only the CCB, Bengaluru was exempted from this order.

“But on Wednesday, the Chief Minister’s Office sent a memo to the police and the home department informing that this order has been withdrawn. The officers who did not want a transfer used their political connections to pressurize the CM to withdraw the order,” informed sources.

“This a fine example for how politicians play an important role in the police department’s day-to-day functioning,” explained a senior official privy to the developments.
