Bengaluru: Even though properties, life, and the standing crop worth several thousand crores have been destroyed in Kodagu flood and landslides, the union government released just Rs. 546 crores under the National Disaster Response Scheme to the state government. This amount includes flood relief for another seven districts including Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagaluru and Hassan.
The state government had sought Rs.1,200 crores for the flood relief.
A decision in this regard was taken when a meeting chaired by union home minister Rajanath Singh was attended by finance minister Arun Jaitley.
According to the sources in the state government, it had already spent Rs.400 crores towards the flood and landslides relief. “We will appeal again seeking more funds. The state was eligible for Rs.742 crores relief under the scheme,” said a senior officer.
