Bengaluru: Making serious allegations against Upalokayukta Subash B. Adi, Congress MLC V.S. Ugrappa on Friday said that the former Lokayukta acted favourably to protect BJP leaders including former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar.
Speaking to the media persons, Ugrappa alleged that Upalokayukta had overstepped his jurisdiction and dismissed a corruption case involving Rs. 676 crore in the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) to protect leaders in the previous Bharatiya Janata Party government.
The congress leader accused the Upalokayukta of disposing off a complaint lodged against the HDMC Commissioner, and other officials in 2013, without conducting a probe.
Ugrappa has been unearthing documents to prove that Adi has indeed overstepped his jurisdiction while clearing the alleged corruption case. Several HDMC officers, engineers and contractors had siphoned off funds sanctioned during the previous BJP government for various developmental works in the corporation limits, he alleged.
Adi had overstepped the jurisdiction and handled the case even though Dharwad district falls under the jurisdiction of the then Upalokayukta-I S.B. Majage, Ugrappa added.
Adi gave a clean chit to officers involved in misappropriation of funds sanctioned for solid waste management, drainage and other civic works, he alleged.
Earlier during the Winter session, Legislative Assembly adopted a motion for the removal of Adi on the charges of misuse of office, misconduct and overstepping jurisdiction.
