Bengaluru: At the end of polling on May 12, voter turnout in Karnataka stood at 70.91 percent. In 2013 Assembly elections only 71.45 percent votes were polled. Despite the best effort of the election commission, the polling percentage dropped this time around.
At 5 PM, more than 64 percent voters exercised their franchise. The polling gained momentum in the last hour of polling and as per latest reports more than 73 percent electorate cast their votes.
Dakshina Kannada witnesses 77.63 percent voter turnout
The Karnataka Assembly elections 2018 were held peacefully in the Dakshina Kannada district. During the mock polling before the elections started at 7 am, 24 Control units, 21 Ballot Unit and 42 VVPAT machines were found to be faulty. These machines were promptly repaired at the election site.
At the end of polling at 6 PM, 77.63 percent of the voters in Dakshina Kannada district exercised their franchise on May 12, said a press release from the Deputy Commissioner’s office. Highest voter turnout was recorded in Sullia at 83 percent followed by Bantwala (81.89 percent) and Puttur (81.7 percent). Lowest voter turnout was registered in Mangaluru South constituency where only 67.47 percent of the votes were cast.
