Bengaluru: Health Minister Dr. K. Sudhakar said that the World Health Organisation has warned about a new variant of Omicron and the government is keeping up with the latest developments related to Covid.
Speaking to mediapersons he said that the mask mandate had already been revoked in three Indian states. “We have not cancelled the order of wearing face masks in public places. Consultations on revoking compulsory masks in Karnataka are ongoing,” he said, stressing that the Covid Task Force and the Chief Minister will make a final decision on the matter soon.
“The majority of the people are not wearing face masks, but the government is being lenient in light of current circumstances,” he said.
The Minister further said that a decision on genomic sequencing of Covid test samples will be made following discussion with the Indian Council For Medical Research (ICMR).
