Bengaluru: With unpleasant episodes unfurling in Belagavi border area, following chaos in connection to border and language dispute, Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has said that not even an inch of land will be given away to Maharashtra.

Opining that the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government is creating ruckus, BSY said that Maha CM Uddhav Thackeray is doing all possible efforts to have control over the Marathas in Karnataka by stirring their emotions.

“He is talking about the ‘Maratha identity’ only to create problems for Karnataka. He is conspiring to turn Karnataka Marathas against the state,” said BSY condemning the Maharashtra government for comparing Belagavi border areas to Pakistan Occupied Kashmir.

He further said that there exists no confusion with regard to Karnataka and Maharashtra territory. As per the Mahajan Commission report, everything has been clearly earmarked.

“I condemn Maharashtra CM and I announce that Karnataka will not give away even an inch of its own land to Maharashtra,” he said and called upon the border area Kannadigas to maintain peace.

Over the last two days, the border areas of Belagavi has been witnessing pandemonium after the Shiv Sena reiterated the border issues and its claim that large areas of Belagavi border belongs to Maharashtra. The Sena is also of the opinion that all the Maratha dominated pockets of Karnataka including Karwar should belong to Maharashtra.

Statement by Karnataka Nava Nirman Sena leader that Belagavi-based Maharashtra Ekikarana Samiti members should be shot at sight adding to the problems.
Soon protesters took to streets and Shiva Sena activists even stalled Kannada film screening in the border area. Buses plying in Belagavi and Kolhapur border areas have been stopped.

Meanwhile, former Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis too came in support of Maharashtra faction and said that if Marathas living in Karnataka are troubled, then he will forget the BJP connection with the Karnataka state government and make sure that Karnataka faces harsh consequences.
