Bengaluru: Two persons cleaning windows of a sky-scrapper knew very little that their job could put them into trouble.

Even as the duo cleaned the window of 22nd floor of the World Trade Centre at Yeshwanthpura, technical glitch rendered their open air platform, on which they were left dangling in the air kaput and for nine hours the duo remained in air, 200 ft above the ground while the rescue team figured a way to extract them to safety.

Wasim Ahmed and Akbar Hussain – from Uttar Pradesh were sent to clean the glass of the building on Monday morning at 8 am after the open platform with the two was lowered from the roof of the 32-storey building.

The machine manoeuvred pedestal reached 22nd floor and got stuck. All efforts to fix the problem met failure.

The Fire and Emergency Services personnel were alerted at 5.45 pm.

The extendable ladders of the two fire tenders fell short by a long margin. The ladders could reach a height of 175 feet. Finally, at about 9 pm, the fire personnel broke open the glass panes to pull the duo to safety.

Breaking the window pane was a herculean task because it had to be accomplished without hurting the duo and the people inside the 22nd floor.

An official of the Fire Department said the duo were not wearing helmets or safety gear.
