Withdrawal of cases: BJP is trying to gain political mileage, says CM

CM1Bengaluru: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of giving caste and communal colour to the withdrawal of cases registered against innocent minorities.

Addressing presspersons after launching the pulse polio drive at his home office Krishna, Siddaramaiah hit out at State BJP leaders saying instead of looking at it from cases registered against innocent persons from a humanitarian angle, the BJP was trying to gain political mileage from the issue.

“Cases registered against innocent persons belonging to any religion, caste, and community would be withdrawn,” he said.

The BJP had criticised the earlier circular by terming it as minority appeasement by the government ahead of elections, and this forced the Home Department to issue a revised version.

The revised version replaced the word “minorities” by “all innocent people”. “Farmers, students, and people belonging to minority communities have participated in several agitations in the past. “We are taking back cases registered against innocent people only,” the Chief Minister clarified.
