Bengaluru: There will be no meaning for democracy without the existence of scientists, farmers and labourers, President Ramnath Kovind said.
Participating in an interactive programme with scientists at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) here on Tuesday, President Ramnath Kovind the country complete 75 years of independence by 2022.
“We have to work hard to make India a model country by 2022. The IISc has the land mark of Swami Vivekananda and J N Ratan Tata. It became the central focus of science,’’ the President said.
Stating the country has achieved great achievement in nanotechnology, organic science, generic medicines, the President said the scientists have to become busy in new inventions.
“The country is facing problems such as poverty, health, food and energy. We have to be in the forefront in science and technology by overcoming such problems,’’ the President said.
Recalling the services rendered by Sir C.V. Raman, S. Chandrasekhar, Abdul Kalam, C.N.R. Rao, the President has described the scientists as the backbone of the country. “The scientists can make the country progressive. Bengaluru is the capital of Information Technology,’’ he said.
