Bengaluru: Even women police personnel are not spared from perverts who make lewd phone calls. A 22-year-old youth, who repeatedly called police control room and harassed women police constables who answered his calls, has finally landed in police net. The accused has allegedly harassed women police personnel for 11 days, starting from November 30 to December 10. He has made exactly 222 calls from his mobile phone number.

The Cubbon Park police investigated the case and identified the accused as Vinay, a provision store owner from Ramnagaram. Unable to bear the mental harassment from the unidentified caller, the women police personnel reported the matter to officials in charge of the police control room. Initially, the women constables reportedly warned the caller of strict action if he continued with his behaviour. But the pervert kept calling, taking the warnings lightly. The accused used to make calls to 100 late in the night and spoke to more than 20 female cops in vulgar language.

After complaints from the aggrieved women, senior officials checked the control rooms caller line identification and found all such calls were made from the same mobile number starting from 9964******. The officials even checked the voice log, which automatically records the conversation, and found that the caller was the same person and all 222 calls made by him were abusive in nature. Since the accused had used a mobile phone number, it made the job of the police easy.

The control room personnel even recorded the transcripts of all 222 calls and put it in a DVD and handed it over to the Cubbon Park police, said an officer who is part of the investigations.

Confirming the arrest, deputy commissioner of police (Central) Sandeep Patil told Bangalore Mirror, “We arrested a 22-year-old provision store owner from Ramanagaram for repeatedly calling our control room and using vulgar, abusive language with women constables who attended the calls. He would always make the calls after dark, but so far, evidence suggests he was not always under the influence of alcohol.”

The DCP explained that the city’s police control room is well-equipped with the latest technology — capable of recording all voices and calls. “This arrest should serve as a warning to other trouble-makers who believe they can make one- or two- second prank calls to the control room and get away with it. We can easily trace anyone who calls us from anywhere, be it from a landline or a mobile; and we will initiate strict action against such characters,” Patil added.
