Zonal officials asked to strictly enforce single-use plastic ban, surprise inspection on shops within BBMP limits

Bengaluru: Surprise inspections are being carried out in shops selling plastic as well as plastic production units within the BBMP limits. Also it is witnessed that fine is also being levied.

It is learnt that Joint Commissioner of Solid Waste Management has instructed all zonal officials to effectively enforce complete stoppage of single-use plastic usage. A team also formed to conduct surprise inspections.

Meanwhile BBMP joint commissioner has told BBMP zonal officials that the ban on single-use plastic be implemented.

Further, BBMP official has stated that single-use plastic has been completely banned in the City and hence the zonal officials have been instructed to take appropriate action against anyone using the same.

It can be recalled here that the Union Ministry of Environment had urged the states to phase out single-use plastic in 2022.
