Zonal-wise task force enables BBMP to tackle emergencies

Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday May 22 formed a task force led by a Minister for each of the City’s eight zones under Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to monitor development work and make necessary decisions in their jurisdictions in the event of an emergency such as heavy rains.

The decision comes in the wake of flooding in various districts caused by heavy rains that hit Bengaluru on the night of Tuesday May 17 and incessant rains thereafter.

“To tackle the rain related problems I have constituted Zonal Task force in all the 8 zones of BBMP. These Zonal task force is headed by a Cabinet Minister and consists of all MLAs/MLCs/MPs and Zonal officers,” Bommai tweeted.

The 8-member taskforce include R. Ashoka for South Zone, Dr. C. N. Ashwath Narayan for East Zone, V. Somanna for West Zone, S. T. Somashekar for RR Nagar Zone, Byrati Basavaraj for Mahadevapura Zone, Gopalaiah K for Bommanahalli Zone and Munirathna in Yelahanka and Dasarahalli Zones.
