Bidar: District In-charge Minister Ishwara B. Khandre visited the Bidar Institute of Medical Sciences (BRIMS) hospital on Friday evening to evaluate the impact of recent heavy rainfall. The flooding on the ground floor had led to significant water accumulation, affecting several departments.
During his visit, Minister Khandre inspected various areas of the hospital, including the general patient department and emergency department, and inquired about the health and well-being of patients. He acknowledged the disruption caused by the water accumulation and assured that the necessary measures would be taken to address the issue.
The minister stated that if additional funds are needed, they would be sourced from the Kalyan Karnataka Regional Development Board. He instructed the district administration to prepare and submit a proposal within three days detailing both emergency and long-term solutions. This proposal should outline steps to mitigate the immediate impact on patients and staff and provide a permanent resolution to prevent future occurrences.
The visit comes in response to a critical incident on Tuesday night when heavy rain led to water accumulation on the hospital’s ground floor, resulting in a short circuit and power supply disruption. This incident compromised the oxygen supply in the neonatal unit, leading to the urgent transfer of 40 children to other hospitals. One patient’s life was saved through the use of a hand pump for emergency oxygen supply.
Currently, efforts are underway to remove the water from the ground floor, where an ancient well has been collecting rainwater. Eight motors and the fire brigade are assisting with the pumping process to alleviate the situation.
