Woman dies, five critical as two autos, car collide in Bhatkal

Bhatkal: One woman succumbed to injuries, while five others are reported to be critically injured in a road accident that happened between two auto rickshaws and a car, here at NH-66, near JMFC court of Bhatkal on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Mahadevi Suresh Naik(42), resident of Shirali. While the injured victims have been identified as Auto driver Nagesh Naik(50) of Tengingunddi, Another auto driver Chandru Naik(33) of Muttali, Baskhar Naik(50) of Shirali, Ratnamma (22) and Kavya(20) both are resident of Whitefield of Bengaluru.

As per sources, on Sunday Morning around 6.45 AM a rickshaw, which was heading towards Bhatkal was trying to overtake another vehicle. Soon, a car which came from the opposite direction lost its control while trying to avoid a collision and unfortunately rammed into both the autos.

The locals soon rushed to the spot and shifted the victims to hospitals at Udupi and Manipal. However, auto passenger Mahadevi of Shirali succumbed to her injuries while on her way to Manipal.

As the people observed gas leakage from the auto, fire personnel were called to avoid further damage.

A case has been registered at Bhatkal town police station.
