Karwar: Karnataka’s Teelmaati ‘Black Beach’, a unique beach known for its black sand will soon be developed as a tourists’ attraction.
The beach, located about 12 kilometers away from the port city of Karwar is one of the smallest beaches on the west coast with a shore area of 50 meters. Other than the black sand, it has large black rocks too.
The idea of developing the beach was mooted a few years ago. A proposal was sent to the District Administration. Responding positively, Deputy Commissioner S S Nakul has said that the District Administration would take up development works soon.
Teelmaati beach finds itself in the history books as it was said to be the international border between India and Goa under the Portuguese rule in 1960s.
