Karwar: Man jailed for visa rule violation by bringing Pak woman to India

Karwar: The District Sessions Court in Karwar has sentenced a Pakistani woman and her husband of Bhatkal to jail term and imposed a fine for violating visa rules.

Mohammed Ilyas, a resident of Maulana Azad Road in Bhatkal, and his Pakistani wife Nasira Parveen have been convicted. Mohammed Ilyas was arrested on June 17, 2014 at the local Bhatkal Police Station and the FRO, Karwar. A case was registered against him for allegedly taking his wife, a Pakistani national, from Bhatkal to Delhi regarding visa extension without informing them and violating visa rules as per the Foreign Act. Bhatkal City Police Station PI Prashanth S. Nayak had investigated the matter and filed a chargesheet.

Principal District and Sessions Judge, Karwar, S. Vijayakumar heard the case and has sentenced the accused Mohammed Ilyas to one month’s simple imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 on him. The accused, Nasira, was sentenced to six months’ simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10,000.

On behalf of the Government in the case, public prosecutor Tanuja V. Hosapattana had put forward the argument.
