Karwar: Travellers in a bus witnessed a nerve wrecking incident that occurred in Kumta town of the Uttar Kannada district when the rear tyres of a government bus detached while in motion, on September 16.
The incident was reported near Kumta’s Vokkaliga Community Bhavan. Fortunately, none of the passengers were injured. The bus was travelling towards Kodkani from Kumta when the incident occurred. It is said that there were around 16 passengers on the bus when the incident occurred.
The incident would have proven fatal without the presence of mind of the driver, who immediately slowed down the bus.
In Kumta, old and outdated buses are seen moving to and fro, in which the localites have to travel fearing for life. The people have demanded the district administration to look into the matter and seize such buses from moving.
It may be recalled that Minister for transportation D C Thammanna had assured of maintaining the chassis and attaching a new body to the government buses on September 15, in Shivamogga.
