Time for people to purify Karnataka’s politics: Siddaramaiah

Karwar: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah has said that the disqualified MLAs will yet again face the heat of disqualification, this time by the voters in the upcoming by-elections.

Dubbing defection as an ‘epidemic’, Siddaramaiah, who was in the Uttara Kannada district to campaign for the Congress’ candidate, said that rebel Shivaram Hebbar, who was in the Congress, was fished out by the ‘Father of Operation Kamala’ Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa with the promise of a ministerial berth. “It is time the people of the state decide to perform a purification of Karnataka’s politics,” he said.

He added, “None of the BJP leaders had assessed the flood situation and found a solution but, now they are asking for votes. The BJP government has not revised the rates of milk and has reduced the quantity of rice under the ‘Anna Bhagya’ scheme. There will be a by-election in the state after this election as the BJP government will collapse once the December 5 by-poll is over.”

Former minister R V Deshpande said, “Instead of spending money on the by-polls, the same could have been utilized for developmental projects. When it comes to the 17 disqualified MLAs, it is impossible to erase the fact that they are ‘disqualified’. People will decide on how they should be punished.”

“Earlier during the Assembly election campaign, I had asked the people to vote for Shivaram Hebbar. Now I have come here to request them not to vote for him. I’m really upset by the way he has behaved. Moreover, he says that he had helped sanction crores of rupees to his constituency. Where has that money gone?” he questioned.

Taking a jibe at BSY, Deshpande said, “While campaigning for the by-polls, CM BSY has been announcing that the 15 BJP candidates have already won. If he is so confident that they have already won, then there is no need to campaign.”

“Hebbar, on the other hand, is taking all the credit saying that he had released all the necessary funds for his constituency, which was actually released during the Siddaramaiah-led Congress government. During the floods, it is very important that a leader should help the flood victims. But in Hebbar’s case, he was happy in Mumbai after tendering his resignation,” he added.

Congress candidate Bhimanna Naik, KPCC vice president Yogesh, AICC representative Vamshikrishna Reddy and others were present.
