Udupi: Udupi District Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis and Assistant Commissioner Shilpa Nag faced murder attempt by the illegal sand miners at Kandlur near Kundapur on late night of Sunday, 2nd April as per the complaint lodged at Udupi Town Police.
DC Priyanka Mary was very curious to find out about the illegal sand mining, following continuous reports on the same and hence she decided to raid the spot along with AC Shilpa Nag and DC’s gunman Prithviraj Jogi and the driver to the illegal sanding mining area. She found that there was illegal sand mining at Hallnadu area and immediately she informed the Kundapur Police to file the complaint and Kundapur Police arrested six persons. All of them are North Indians. After the team along with DC raided the place at Kandlur, the culprits attacked DC’s gunman and Kantharaju Village Accountant. Both DC and AC also faced murder attempt.
During DC’s press meet, she said they had to run from the place in order to save their lives. The village accountant was rescued later with the help of Police. She said a number of illegal sand miners attempted to set the DC’s car on fire.
Meanwhile, eight persons, including six North Indians were taken into custody later and will be produced court today.
