Mangaluru: Fr. Walter Albuquerque, a music maestro, breathed his last at Fr. Muller’s Hospital on Friday night, October 7. He was one of the residents of the Jesuit house in St. Aloysius College and a renowned Konkani music composer who was also called ‘Dhovi Kogul’ (White Nightingale) for his dedication to music.
Fr. Albuquerque was born in Bejai on December 8, 1924. His contribution to music as a composer and a teacher has been commended by all his students and the people who know him. He was also conferred with a number of awards for his music. His most prestigious award was the Global Konkani Music Lifetime Achievement Award.
He joined the residence at St. Aloysius College after his retirement. He promoted Konkani language through his songs and was serving as a choirmaster in various parishes. Fr. Walter was 92-years-old when he breathed his last.
