Mangaluru: The recent incident provoked by the alleged communal command of the district – wherein a man was stripped, tied to a pole and assaulted, has been strongly condemned by the United Muslim Organization of Dakshina Kannada district.
On Tuesday September 1, addressing a press meet, president of United Muslim Organization (UMO) and former mayor Ashraf said it is a planned strategy of the Sangh Parivar to use girls and assault guys from the minority – so that may spark the communal rift in the district.
He further said that minority communities will make sure never to hire any girl from the Hindu community if such an incident happens in the future.
“We will hold a campaign and also a Muslim convention by the end of this month and discuss the issue further”, Ashraf added.
The president of Uniwef Rafiquddin Kudroli also spoke during the meet.
The Organization has demanded the arrest of Anil Kumar of Bajrang Dal and Latha of Durgavahini, who allegedly threatened Shabbir’s brother in the police station while the case was being filed. They also demanded the withdrawal of the ‘false’ case against Shabbir, compensation for him from the government, investigation into the identity of the girl who addressed the press meet, and the arrest of Sharan Pumpwell.
It may be recalled that on August 24, Shabbir was stripped, tied to an electricity pole and assaulted by right-wing activists for being in the company of a female colleague from another community. The girl later claimed that Shabbir had ‘harassed’ her and that she was ‘rescued’ by the mob. Shabbir, however, said in his complaint that he was only giving some money to the girl as she had asked for it, and he was sitting inside the car while she was standing outside. The incident had become national news, creating another instance of communal violence in the district.
