12-year-old boy falls into quarry in Bantwal, dies

Mangaluru: A 6th standard student died after falling into a red stone quarry here at Barekadu in Bantwal of the Dakshina Kannada District.

The deceased has been identified as Savad, (12) son of Sadique.

Locals informed that the boy had fallen into a quarry and died when he was playing with the other children. It is said that immediately after the boy fell into the quarry the rest of the children informed their elders and he was rushed to the nearby private hospital. However, the doctors on examination declared the boy was brought dead. The postmortem has been conducted at the Government Hospital, Bantwal.

The Bantwal Town Police Station Sub-Inspector Avinash has visited the spot and has registered a case.

The 20-feet deep red stone quarry was filled with water after heavy rains in the area. The locals alleged that the tragedy was caused due to the negligence of quarry workers who have not closed the pits properly.
