Bantwal: A 13-ft Black Cobra was caught in the outskirts of Kayyarmar, at Amttadi village on Sunday August 9.
Reportedly, the reptile was found adjacent to the District Congress leader K Harikrishna’s house.
According to the villagers, few farmers had seen a long snake many a times however misinterpreted it to be a rat snake. Although on Saturday a villager saw the same huge black snake eating another snake, which confirmed their doubt of the reptile being a black Cobra. Soon after which, the villager were cautioned and a hunt was launched by the forest department along with snake enthusiastic Kiran Pinto.
Forest department officers Subhramaniah Rao and Sitaram Shetty addressing the media said that this is the first time such a huge black Cobra has been found in the region. “If the snake bites someone there are no anti-venoms in the region”, the stated.
Once the Cobra was caught, the forest officials decided the reptile to shift it at Mangaluru’s Pilikula Nisargadhama. Although due to increase in number of snakes in the zoo, the snake was decided to be shifted at Shiradi Ghat forest.
