Mangaluru: Research student in History and Archaeology Shruthesh Acharya, Moodubelle has deciphered the inscription unearthed by Director of Studies in History Prof. S A. Krishnaiah of Prachya Sanchaya Samshodhana Kendra (Oriental Archives Research Centre), (a unit of NTC- AOM, Udupi) at Megina Kuriyala, Bantwal of Dakshina Kannada District.
The 25-lined inscription is carved on a granite and Kannada script, language has been used therein. The inscription stone is 178 cm in height and 78 cm in width. The inscription states that on 13th day of Mesha month of Krodhi Samvatsara of 1286 Saka era (Friday April 27, 1364) a donation consisting stock of rice and coins were made by the residents of Mitta Kuryala and Chiltha Kuryala (currently Megina Kuriyala and Thirta Kuriyala) through Mangaluru Governor Rajyapala Maadarasa to Pandeshwara God in the presence of Pandeshwara God and Devarajama(Ya)thi Shripadangal.
The inscription mentions of practice of donation which if not practiced a punishment will be in the form giving 1000 coins to the king. At the end of the inscription, it is written that the inscription is by a person named ‘Alupabhova’.
