Aati Kuta 2015 to be held on Aug 9

Mangaluru: The district administration will be observing Aati Kuta 2015 at the Pilikula Nisargadhama at Guthumane on Sunday August 9, 10 am onwards.

The month of Aati (as per the Tulu calendar, a month that falls in between second half of July and first half of August) will be celebrated with the intention of recalling the rich Tulu tradition and thereby preserving the same at Samskruti Grama, Pilikula Nisargadhama in association with Tulu Sahitya Academy and Taluk Mahila Mahamandalagala Okkuta.

The members of the association speaking to the media said that it is a day of fun, with competitions and events organized for the whole day.

The day will start with an inaugural function. Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake will be inaugurating the event. After which, events such as Aati Kalenja Dress competition, Aati Kalenja Dance, Face painting, Tulu traditional songs competition, Tala Maddale, Chikkamela Yakshagana, Aati special delicacies, fish delicacies, quiz competitions, transplantation of paddy seedlings, Philatelic and Numismatic exhibition, sale and exhibition of traditions artifacts and handicrafts, fruits, plants and many other events are listed to be organised.

The main attraction of the event is the scrumptious Aati lunch will be served at the traditional Guthu mane. The event is open to all for no cost, however, the lunch will have to be paid for, for which the tickets are available at Parampara – Kadri for Rs 250.

Addressing the press persons, DC Ibrahim said that the main aim of organizing this event is that the youth and the next generation must understand and recognize their culture.

He stressed that we are trying to retain the culture of Tulunadu, thus the festival has been kept as traditional as possible and no commercialization or modern touch has been given to it.

He further informed that from the next year, the Joint-council at the district administration will maintain a calendar of events under the idea of having 12 events for 12 months respectively.
