Mangaluru: Aditya Rao, who stands accused of planting a bomb at the Mangaluru International Airport on January 20, was on Saturday, February 1, taken by the Mangaluru police to court to request for an extension of custody.

The JMFC Court, after hearing the arguments, agreed to extend the police’s custody of Rao by two weeks.

Earlier, on January 23, Rao was taken to court for the first time, where he was remanded to a 10-day custody with the Mangaluru police for the purpose of their investigation.

It can be recalled that on Monday, January 20, Rao allegedly placed a bomb at MIA and fled the spot immediately. The device was spotted and disposed of with a controlled explosion a few hours later.

The Wednesday after the incident, Rao surrendered before the Bengaluru police as he found no means of escape as his face was plastered across all news channels.

He was taken into custody and interrogated. Police learnt that he learnt how to build a bomb by going through YouTube. Rao also admitted to making fake bomb threat calls to IndiGo Airlines. He allegedly did all this to take revenge as he wasn’t able to get a job.
