Mangaluru: A man committed suicide by hanging himself in a cashewnut farm owned by the Government on Monday, October 15, in Sharavuru Karandlaje of the Puttur Taluk. However, he made sure to say goodbye to his friends before doing so.

The deceased has been identified as Vinay Devadiga(35), son of Kushalappa Devadiga a resident of Alankaru village. He is survived by his parents and sister.

Vinay was an alcoholic and was depressed that no one wanted to marry him. He might have ended his life because he was fed up with this, said sources.

“He hanged himself with a nylon rope,” informed Vinay’s uncle, Shivanand Devadiga.

Initially, Vinay worked as a rickshaw driver, but later, he began working as a coolie (porter) at Campco’s Alankaru office on a daily wage basis. Not wanting to be an alcoholic anymore, he had enrolled himself at a rehabilitation camp.

Sources said that Vinay was cheerful till Monday afternoon, but at around 2 PM, he sent a message to all of his close friends that he had decided to end his life. On seeing this message, hsi friends tried to contact him immediately. Some were not able to reach him while some others did. To those who managed to get him on call, Vinay did not say a thing, but cried profusely and cut the call. Worried about his wellbeing, his friends immediately set out to look for him, but found his body hanging from a cashew tree.

A case has been registered with Kadaba Police Station.
