Mangaluru: Private doctors continued their protest in Puttur taluk over the alleged attack on a private doctor who was treating a child by a few persons.
Health minister U T Khader at the launch of Haj pilgrimage at Mangaluru airport, condemned the attack on the doctor and said, “if there was any lapse on the part of doctors during treatment there were appropriate bodies for the relatives of any patient to complain. They could have complained to the police or the Medical Council of India”, he added.
Urging agitating doctors to withdraw the strike, the minister said, “Doctors too should follow their professional ethics. Doctors are educated people. If they go ahead with the strike, it would show them in poor light as many patients would be affected. The private practitioners should not strike work in the interest of patients. If any government doctor supported Monday’s proposed strike, the government will take action against him.”
He also said that neither the Puttur unit of IMA nor the Mangaluru unit of IMA has reported the incident to him. However he told media that he would ask the Superintendent of Police of Dakshina Kannada to look into the matter of alleged attack.
The Puttur unit of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), backed by the Mangaluru unit of the IMA, has called for the strike seeking the arrest of persons who allegedly attacked a doctor at a private hospital in Puttur on August 1. A doctor had allegedly been attacked while treating a child.
