Moodbidri: Senior artist Padmashri Dr Manu Parekh was bestowed with Alva’s Varna Virasat Award on the final day of Alva’s Virasat at the Vanajakshi K Sripathi Bhat Vedike on Sunday December 27.
The award included Rs 25,000 and citation. Dr Parekh was honoured in the presence of his wife Madhavi Parekh, Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation Dr Mohan Alva, former minister Amarnath Shetty, Secretary of Ujire SDM Institutions Dr B Yashovarma and Chancellor of Nitte University Dr S Ramananda Shetty among others.
Earlier, President of Bunts Association Mumbai Vishwanath Shetty Karnire and Moodbidri based businessman Deviprasad Shetty inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the lamp.
Followed by the stage ceremony, the audiences were enthralled with splendid music performances with Karthik from Chennai initiating the show with a devotional song, followed by Tamil and Bollywood hits. Singer Vijay Prakash crooned popular Tulu and Kannada songs. They were perfectly complemented by Arun Kumar on drums, Giridhar Udupa on Ghatam, Keith Peter on base guitar, Vijay Joseph on lead guitar, Pradumya and Navaneet Sunder on tabla and Harsha on keyboard.
The four-day event turned out to be another successful episode for the Alva’s Foundation.
