Moodbidri: The grand inaugural of the Alva’s “Nudisiri 2016” was witnessed by a whopping audience of 40000 at the Rathnakaravarni Stage at Vidyagiri, Moodbidri. The entire campus was decorated with diversified cultural show pieces. A number of cavalcades taken out exhibited the entire cultural diversity of our state and nation.

On a philosophical note, Sanskrit Scholar and President of Alva’s Nudisiri- 2016, Dr. B N Sumithra Bai said, “Tomorrow is an unreal concept. People have created it because they find the contemporary conditions uncomfortable and hope better for the next day. In real, tomorrows are an amalgamation of today and yesterday. Both the past and the future consist each other within.”

Delivering the presidential address, she said, “Be it the political circles, literature, art or culture, there is a serious dearth of people who discuss and promote culture in an unbiased manner. Commoners must be aware of people who propagate culture with an inclination towards self-benefit, for they are making no contributions towards promoting cultures or building a better tomorrow. Only when all the aspects of a society are open minded and unbiased, there is scope for art and culture to take unmatched forms and contribute towards development.”

Commenting on media, Dr. Bai said, “Mass media, while expected to play the role of ambassadors towards building a better tomorrow, are not living up to their requisite standards. While the electronic media is easily capturing people’s minds, even print media is trying to keep up the wrong way. This is not a right trend if we intend to build a better tomorrow for the state, and should be changed first.” She continued stating that women writers were the pioneers of women’s empowerment movements, and women’s literature deserved more emphasis.

Inaugurating Alva’s Nudisiri 2016, litterateur Dr. Jayanth Gowreesh Kaykini said, “Art and culture are those aspects of society, which can unite people transcending all boundaries. Society and culture have grown hand in hand and every little form of art is a key for progress. That can be justified by the fact that cultures are a mixture of a number of things and variety flourishes while homogeneity goes extinct.” He critically said that religion and culture were not the concern of fulfilled appetites. “Culture shouldn’t be treated like a museum, which turns useless and dusty; instead we treat it as garden, where every cold breeze makes us feel better each day”, he opined.

Dr. B N Sumithra Bai and Dr. Jayanth Kaikini were felicitated during the programme. A number of literary works including stamps and postal envelops from postal department of India concerning cultural aspects were released. Musical presentations increased the grandeur of the show. Chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation Dr. M Mohan Alva, Kannada Sahithya Parishad President Manu Baligar, former minister Amarnath Shetty, MLC Capt. Ganesh Karnik were present among others.
