Ambergris worth 2.2 Cr seized, four held in M’luru

Mangaluru: Kankanady Town Police have arrested four people and seized Ambergris worth Rs 2.20 crore.

Jabeer M. A. (35) of Karike village in Kodagu, Asir V. P. (36) of Hosadurga in Kerala, Sherief N. (32) of Hosadurga, and Shabad (27) of Karike village are among those arrested, informed DCP (Law and Order) Hariram Shankar.

While attempting to sell ambergris to customers, they were arrested from a vacant land in Jeppinamogaru. Five phones, a car, and Rs. 1070 in cash were also seized by police.

The total value of the property seized is Rs. 2,25,92,070. The raid was carried out under the direction of City Police Commissioner N. Shashi Kumar.

The police have filed charges under the Wildlife Protection Act of 1972.
