Bantwal: Superintendent of Police Ravikanthe Gowda has suspended ASI Raghuram Hegde of Bantwal town police on charges of dereliction of duty and has also ordered a probe.

The officer was suspended on the allegation that when the victim of the Thota Bengre rape had visited the town police station on November 20 to report the incident which took place on November 18, he sent the victim back asking her to file a complaint in the jurisdiction where it took place.

This forced the victim to travel to Mangaluru where she later filed a complaint at the Mangaluru Women’s Police Station.

After the complaint was processed, a special team in association with the Anti-Rowdy Squad was formed. Of the seven apprehended three are minors and were are charged under IPC sections 376 (D), 323, 354, 506.
