Mangaluru: Health and family welfare minister U T Khader speaking to reporters while addressing the issue of dengue and malaria asked private hospitals to follow treatment protocol prescribed for treatment of the same.
Expressing concern over the death of three people due to dengue at a private hospital in Puttur last month, he asked private hospitals to follow the protocol or refer them to the nearest government hospital. “Action will be taken if private hospitals continue to ignore the treatment protocol”, he said
He also asked people not to go for self-medication. He provided a reference of a Panchayath member’s relative from Belthangady who got cured of dengue after he moved from a private hospital to the Government Wenlock hospital in Mangalore.
He said a notice has been issued to a private hospital in Puttur where one more person died of dengue and also added that the hospital had Ayurvedic practitioners as duty doctors which is a serious issue. A detailed inquiry is being done to look into the issue.
“The state government has taken necessary steps to improve facilities at government hospitals for treatment of dengue affected patients and other diseases”, he added.
