Mangaluru: In a development on the protest by Ayush doctors, Health and Family welfare minister UT Khader said that there is no way that the State or the Central government can make them permanent as they themselves have been signed under contract. However, we are considering their plea as per the central orders, he said.

On November 5, 2011, Khader said he had written to the Additional Secretary and Mission Director, NHM however, in-reply, the central has directed the state quoting, “The ongoing activity will approve for 5% hike for only 650 doctors at 16170 per month where as for others, the state will have to re-advertise for the existing posts of Ayush Doctors at 25000 per month after proper evaluation”. The notice read that Ayush doctors may also reapply.

“First preference will be given to Ayush doctors during reappointment” said Khader. They will be subjected to evaluation, he added.

Another twist in the scenario as informed by Khader is that, although the Centre has agreed on reappointing the staff at the raised salary, they haven’t released the money in the annual budget sheet.  Khader further narrated that every year there is a hike of 10% in the given budget but this neither was the 10% hike given, plus the amount was less by Rs 125 Cr less of the total allotment.

Hitting on the NDA government UT Khader said, it would be advisable that the central government emphasises on such aspects and facilitates medical services rather than having “Selfie campaigns” (The recent father-daughter Selfi Campaign that was encouraged by Modi to empower girl child).

He lastly noted that the advertisement for the already occupied Ayush doctors’ posts will be put up by August 30; the evaluation procedure will be conducted and sent to Delhi after which appointment will be done on the revised salary.
