Mangaluru: An instagram image of Minister for Foreign Affairs of Bahrain Khalid Bin Ahmad AL-Khalifa has won many hearts, especially the hearts of Kannadigas and Mangaloreans.

The Minister had recently put up a picture of his with an elderly lady. The lady in the picture is none other his Nanny, a Mangalorean who took care of the Minister and his siblings when they were kids.

The minister on his Instagram account khalid_bin_ahmad shared a picture where he is seen standing next to a senior citizen that read, “With my nanny who looked after me as her son since my childhood; Mama Carmine Mathias, at her home in Mangalore, Karnataka…she came to Bahrain when she was 35 years old in January 1959. Now she is 93. She looked after my late brother Abdalla, myself and my two younger sisters Maie and Lulwa. She gave us the best of her love and care…we cherish every moment in our life with her. May God bless her soul and give her good health and longevity.”

The post went viral immediately and garnered over 5,000 likes and nearly 400 comments and most of the comments lauded the Minister’s simplicity and the heart-warming gesture of visiting the Port City of Mangalore to see his Nanny.

Meanwhile, Ashok Raymond Monteiro, grandson of Carmine Mathias, posted on Facebook about the minister’s visit. “His Excellency Shaikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Al Khalifa foreign minister kingdom of Bahrain visited our home at Bajpe, Mangalore to meet mama carmine our granny ..A great human being with down to earth personality (sic),” Ashok stated.

It may be recalled that the minister had earlier visited Kerala to meet an Indian lady who had worked as domestic help in his home.
