Mangaluru: Bhuvith Shetty, Bajrang Dal convenor from Bantwal has been arrested in connection with his controversial tweet relating to the brutal murder of MM Kalburgi.
Bantwal police arrested him on Monday and have taken him into custody for questioning.
Soon after the Kannada scholar was shot dead by two unidentified men, Shetty posted a controversial tweet at 10:41 am on 30 August that said, “Then it was U R Anantamoorty and now it is M M Kalburgi. Mock Hinduism and die a dog’s death. And dear K. S Bhagwan you are next”. Shetty’s Twitter handle was, however, deleted shortly after.
Soon after Bantwal police were informed about the controversial tweet, they immediately registered a suo moto case at Bantwal police station.
A case of IPC section 153 (Self-indulgent flirtation or trifling by giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and IPC 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) has been filed against Bhuvith and the interrogation is on. According to police sources, since it is not a cognizable offense he might be released.
